“One must be willing to be their own Master”- Barry Donaldson

You may be reading my second blog as a direct response to me asking for your email address.  Thank you for taking action. My first blog sets the scene to my hunger to share my story.  If you’ve ever checked out Jim Rohn’s The Magic of part time you’ll understand his famous quote “profits and better than wages”.  My social business had not made a profit.  My frustration intensified.  How could I help others if I was struggling to help myself?

I have invited you to read my story so you can understand my desire to immediately take control of my life.  Tony Robbins teaches us our rituals define us.  After taking action on his advice my new rituals include daily walks and reading as much as I can.  I am now committed to take action to blog.  If you like stories I invite you to come back to my blogspot .

I stumbled on a youtube video showcasing a speech by a multi-millionaire Barry Donaldson.  The speech entitled “Freedom” had an immediate impact on me. As many are aware the job market has been slow.  I needed to increase my income so at the start of 2011 I was motivated to start an active job search.  I quickly realised how much things had changed. The last time I applied for employment was back in 2008.  Four years ago my skills, knowledge and qualifications made me immediately employable.

If you know me personally you’ll be aware of my project management experience.  As I frantically searched for professional opportunities I appreciated how competitive roles had become. Working within the social enterprise sector locally I was becoming active in the debate on the ‘Big Society and the role of social entrepreneurship’.  However, the reality was the cuts in the public sector were also affecting other social entrepreneurs.  The people we set out to help wanted access to our educational programmes but did not value themselves enough to pay for the knowledge.  From our establishment we've been clear about our social enterprise model.  We do not want to set up a charity at this stage of our development.

I could not allow external factor such as cuts in public funding and the recession to continue to impact my internal world.  I had to act quickly to try and improve my situation.  I realised sales roles were the most accessible opportunities.  I enjoy communicating with people, so selling someone else’s product needed to become my focus.

I needed peace of mind.  My own personal expenses were being covered without the constant worry self employment brings.  I knew the restrictions of working for someone again.  I didn’t care I only had the mental energy to focus on my potential earning ability.  My personal and business debts were mounting.  ~i needed to get the money in quickly.  Ironically, despite my own problems it did not take me long to become a top performer for a debt management firm!

I left the debt management industry in May to move into the renewable energy sector.  After nine months working full as an employee for others I feel as though I can now share my experience.

In terms of the Social Solutions Academy our reputation for organising networking events temporarily lost its momentum.  I have kept a low profile for a number of reasons.  I needed to realign myself with the vibration in the vortex.  Starting any business is tough.  Listening to a range of motivational speakers has really helped me put things into perspective.  I needed to work full time on my income.

I’ve humbly started to work on my social business again on a part time.  I needed to believe that the energy and commitment I had for our education programme would return.  I continued to listen intently to Abraham Hicks, Les Brown, Chris Howard, Bob Proctor Jim Rohn, and Brian Tracey.  The pace has picked up very quickly again.  The most amazing thing that is happening is based on minimal hours we are preparing to deliver Action for Social Enterprise Nigeria.

Barry Donaldson advises “One must be willing to be their own master”.  The story of freedom Barry yearned for was written before he started to make money in his business.  His self-belief enabled him to take action to achieve his goals.

If you gave me your email address was it because you are seeking to change your life? If so, I’d like to introduce you to the teachings of David Wood.  He has shown me a way to work full time on my income as Jim Rohn advises.  However, what he has already started to teach me is a simple way to ensure I can maintain my part time activities required for my social business.  In doing so, I will be able to achieve my personal goals by reaching out to people we are seeking to educate.  All I’ve got to do is continue to make it happen!
